Olive oil for cat constipation is an effective treatment for feline lower urinary tract disease; however, only this treatment should be administered if your cat has only occasional constipated constipation. The olive oil actually acts as a very good bowel movement stimulant and will cause the stool to be even more bulky. The constipation usually occurs when the stool is already too dry and therefore, the intestines will always absorb the water in the stool, which makes them harder to pass out.

When feeding a cat the regular canned cat food: is not enough to keep them full and active all day long. Most canned foods contain grain-free or wheat gluten meal, which often reduces the fiber content of the product and makes the cat obese and constipated. This problem can also be avoided by adding fresh raw meat or poultry to the diet. Fresh meat will provide high-quality protein, which will enhance the desire for food among cats and help them maintain a healthy digestion system.

You can also try adding vegetables and fruits to the cat food to improve the stool movement: However, it should be noted that most cats dislike vegetables. So try adding cooked or steamed vegetables instead. For the cats likeagenic cats (agenous felines which produce small amounts of fur and tend to retain water in their body) you can try to add onions, garlic, ginger and other spices. Garlic can stimulate secretion of natural feline enzymes like pepsin and also may help improve the stool movement.

Dry cat hairballs can also be treated using olive oil for cat: constipation by using a teaspoon of the powder mixed with a teaspoon of cornmeal. The mixture can then be added to a bowl of warm water. After a short waiting period, the mixture can then be given to the cat to drink. Regular consumption can also help in removing the accumulated hairballs.

If your pet is suffering from chronic constipation: it might need more intensive treatment. As stated earlier, the level of activity in a cat’s abdomen plays a vital role in determining the stool movement pattern. In this case, a visit to the vet is required. The vet might need to perform a series of tests to determine whether the underlying cause for constant constipation is stress or genetics. It might need further evaluation if the cause is neurological.

You can also add canned pumpkin to your cat’s diet: However, do not give the canned pumpkin directly to the cat since it might contain some ingredients that are harmful to the cat’s digestive system. Instead, you can add some drops of the canned pumpkin to a bowl of cat food.
